PROJECT SHANGRI-LA features a stellar lineup of world-class musicians. The album is again produced by Lana's husband, progressive rock master keyboardist Erik Norlander. Joining Lana and Erik this time are the long time American Lana Lane musicians Neil Citron (lead guitar), Mark McCrite (rhythm guitar, harmony vocals) and Don Schiff (Chapman Stick). New to the Lana Lane family and appearing here for the first time is drummer Vinny Appice (Black Sabbath, Dio). PROJECT SHANGRI-LA also includes fantastic guest apperances by vocalist Mark Boals (Ring of Fire, Yngwie Malmsteen) and guitarist Helge Engelke (Fair Warning), both of whom co-wrote songs for the album as well. The album closes with a stirring Italian language duet of Lana Lane and Mark Boals singing their powerful interpretation of the modern classical piece, "Time To Say Goodbye".

Producer Erik Norlander writes in the liner notes to PROJECT SHANGRI-LA: "This album is the second point of convergence for Lana Lane. Good things come in threes, so it is said, and this is certainly true for our albums. "Project Shangri-La" completes a second trilogy that was begun in 1999 with "Queen of the Ocean" followed in 2000 by "Secrets of Astrology". In "Project Shangri-La" you will find shades from each of these prior releases along with some new colors as well. Prior to these recent albums, we had reached our first point of convergence with "Garden of the Moon" in 1998. "Garden of the Moon" took the best AOR and atmospheric elements from Lana's 1995 debut, "Love is an Illusion" and combined them with more evolved progressive and symphonic styles from her sophomore effort, the 1996 "Curious Goods" release. "Garden of the Moon" was a tremendous success in Japan, and for all intents and purposes, this album launched Lana's career in Europe as the first domestic release there."

Internationally reknowned vocalist Lana Lane once again steps into the limelight with her forthcoming release GARDEN OF THE MOON. Eagerly anticipated in Europe, Japan and the United States, Lane's third release issues a powerful statement of melody, atmosphere, style and color.

Following its predecessors LOVE IS AN ILLUSION and CURIOUS GOODS, GARDEN OF THE MOON showcases Lana Lane's trademark soaring vocals which have been described as "clear, sweet and expressive", "sorrowful", "dramatic" and "angelic". Lane's influences combine 70's rock greats with Jazz and Big Band singers, resulting in a unique style rich from decades of musical adventure.

GARDEN OF THE MOON takes the most memorable elements from Lane's first two releases, synthesizing the best aspects of each album. LOVE IS AN ILLUSION was an HR/HM phenomenon, while CURIOUS GOODS won the hearts of the progressive and art rock fans. GARDEN OF THE MOON speaks to both camps with lush, symphonic arrangements of tracks such as "Seasons" and also with powerful, heavy rock anthems such as "Evolution Revolution".

GARDEN OF THE MOON features songs written by Lane along with several collaborators. Lane wrote tracks for the first time with Chapman Stick player Don Schiff (Rocket Scientists). The songs "Seasons" and "Eternal Waters" are evidence of this brilliant union of creative minds. Schiff previously wrote the songs "Cold Outside" (Love is an Illusion album) and "Take a Breath" (Curious Goods album) which were co-written with vocalist Tully Winfield. In keeping with tradition, the Schiff / Winfield team wrote a new track for GARDEN OF THE MOON entitled "Under the Olive Tree", which features the writing team's trademark memorable choruses and haunting melodies.

Lane also collaborated with longtime friend, female rock guitarist Danelle Kern, who plays the thunderous chainsaw rhythm guitar on GARDEN OF THE MOON. Together they penned the martial yet ethereal song "Moongarden", which contains the lyric that became the album's title. Virtuoso guitarist Neil Citron returns from the CURIOUS GOODS album to contribute stunning lead guitar parts to the album as well, adding his identifying angularly melodic touch.

Los Angeles prog rockers ROCKET SCIENTISTS make up the rest of the band on GARDEN OF THE MOON. Drummer Tommy Amato, who played on both LOVE IS AN ILLUSION and CURIOUS GOODS, drives the rhythm section with fire and brimstone pyrotechnics. Don Schiff plays Chapman Stick on the record, creating undulating bass lines and crystalline guitar - like arpeggios with this unique instrument. ROCKET SCIENTISTS frontman Mark McCrite contributes acoustic and electric guitars to GARDEN OF THE MOON along with his stellar background harmony vocals. GARDEN OF THE MOON is produced by keyboardist Erik Norlander, who also wrote and co-wrote several of the songs. Cover art is again provided by Polish artists Jacek Yerka, who painted the incredible covers for LOVE IS AN ILLUSION and CURIOUS GOODS.

Venom is a black/thrash metal band, formed in 1979, in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Influenced by rock and heavy metal acts such as Judas Priest, The Sex Pistols, KISS and Motörhead, Venom created a sound as well as an image that would be a big influence to early death, black, and thrash metal bands at the time, and the pioneers of the genre of black metal. Mayhem, Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Hellhammer, Exodus, Eudoxis and Morbid Angel cite Venom as a major influence. Though musically they are more closely related to early thrash metal, it was their lyrical topics and harsher vocals which separated them from other bands at the time (usually dealing with Satan and Hell and other "black" topics). Their first two records, Welcome to Hell in 1981 and Black Metal in 1982, set the bar for black metal to follow. The original members went by the pseudonyms Cronos, Mantas, and Abaddon.

These three songs were recorded as a demos deal struck with the then Atco label. The basic tracks were recorded by producer David Prater, in a single session at Beartracks Studios, Suffern, New York, in May 1991. Guitars, Keyboards and overdubs were recorded at Prater's 16-track basement home studio in New Jersey. The demo's were then submitted to the label and on the strength of these three tracks, a recording deal was immediately struck. Here for the first time, the original demo is officially re-issued, in 2002, as a strictly limited edition - which is only available through the Dream Theater International Fan Clubs - to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Images And Words album

Opeth is a progressive death metal band from Sweden. Opeth adds several lighter elements to their music with acoustic guitar interludes, and influences from jazz, '70s progressive rock and blues on top of a fast, churning death metal-esque sound. Vocalist Mikael Åkerfeldt performs both clean singing and death vocals (although on the first two albums, his vocals are actually more similar to the shrieking typically found in black metal). Due to their unique blend of melodic and progressive elements, they are said not to conform to typical death metal acts, or any other specific metal sub-genre. Opeth has also attracted a lot of attention from doom metal fans.

The name "Opeth" was taken from the novel Sunbird (1972) by author Wilbur Smith (Åkerfeldt calls the book "shit"), and was originally spelled Opet. In the book, Opet is the name of the location for an ancient empire which translates to "City of the Moon".

TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA was formed in 1996 by Paul O'Neill who immediately approached long time friends and collaborators Robert Kinkel and Jon Oliva to form the core of the writing team. Paul O'Neill is a rare talent; a prolific writer and producer with a tremendously varied career in the music industry. A New York City native, O'Neill shaped his passion for music around the varied sounds he was introduced to while growing up - from QUEEN to classical, YES to Harry Chapin, Broadway musicals to Jim Croce. With TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA, he create the music with no artificial limitations, seeking the fusion of classical, rock, Broadway and R & B influences.

Robert Kinkel began working as an assistant engineer on productions for artists such as "The WHO," "The POLICE", and "GENESIS." He next began to work as an independent session keyboard player and writer. He began his collaboration with Paul O'Neill and Jon Oliva on the "Savatage" album "Hall of the Mountain King," playing keyboards and doing orchestrations.

Jon Oliva is a self taught multi-instrumentalist, accomplished on keyboards, guitar, drums, bass, violin and cello. Jon is internationally renowned for his work as founder, writer, keyboardist and lead singer for the hard rock band "Savatage. Jon became one of the core writers for the newly formed TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA. Jon has been a key member of the group ever since.

With a release of "The Lost Chrismas Eve" in 2004 reach world-wide fame. Being recognized as a kind of ALAN PARSONS PROJECT refering to the multiples collaborations of musician and their conceptual compositions.

Dreams of Sanity was founded in April 1991 by Christian Marx (guitar and music) and Michael Knoflach (bass, lyrics) together with Hannes Richter (drums, ex-Blitzgemetzel, ex-Hypen) as a trio.

Summer 1992 the first vocalist ,Gudrun Gfrerer, and Florian Razesberger (keys) joined the band and Dreams of Sanity debuted live in the cellar of Michael's parents. Backing-vocals were sung by Christian.

In 1993 Hannes richter left the band and was replaced by Romed Astner, Florian Razesberger switched to second guitar and Sefan Manges took place behind the keyboard. Instead of Gudrun Gfrerer, Birgit Moser and her friend Robert were featured on vocals.

Luckily Sandra schleret and Martina Hornbacher replaced the former vocalists and finally Dreams of Sanity released their first Demo Tape in May 1994. In December 1994 Florian Ratzesberger was replaced by Andreas Wilauer on guitar.

With this line-up Dreams of Sanity recorded Komödia I and Komödia II in the Z-Sound-Studios in Insnburck and relesed the two songs on the self-financed A goddamed city-sampler together with four other Innsbruck underground-bands. The song Komödia I got the attention of HALL OF SERMON in 1996 and after the "DARK WINTER NIGHTS" Tour together with Lacrimosa, THE GATHERING, SENTENCED and D-AGE a contract was signed on the 6.4.1997.

Already in Janurary 1997 the Komödia-Album was recorded in the Zero-Point Studios (Robert Romagna, Kramsach, Austria), mixed in the Impuls Studios Hamburg and released on the 3.11.97.

Summer 1997 Dreams of Sanity split from Martina Hornbacher and Romed Astner for musical and personal differences and after a lot of vocal-auditions decided not to fill Martina's place anymore. Harald Obexer replaced Romed and later, as Stefan Manges left the band, Frédéric Heil joined the little "Sanity Family".
With this line-up Dreams of Sanity recorded Masquerade in August 1998 (released 25.1.1999) and The Game in August 1999 (released 25.9.2000 due to problems with the distribution in Germany). After the recordings of The Game Harald Obexer laft the band and was replace by Patrick Schrittwieser (drums). Soon also Frédéric Heil had to be replaced by Florian Steiner due to severe musical differences.

The band splitted in April 2002, here's Sandra's comment about it: "I' m very sorry to tell you the following news... after more than 10 years Dreams of Sanity it seems like the story has come to an unexpected end. Few weeks ago I recieved a phonecall and Michael told me that there will be no 4th DoS-album released anymore. As you can imagine, I was quite surprised by this, because I returned thinking that we could find back to former times. I want you to know that it was not my desicion (ore else I wouldn?t have returned), I?m sad about it, but it takes more than one to keep Dreams of Sanity alive. As a little "thanks" for the fans who supported us, we will try to find a possibility to release the last three DoS-songs recorded. I?ll keep you informed. Once again, I?m sorry to have such bad news for you, all I can tell you is that I will of course continue with my music, because I simply can?t live without it."

Final Fantasy XII Original Soundtrack is the soundtrack album of the video game music from the role-playing game, Final Fantasy XII, produced and developed by Square Enix for the PlayStation 2 video game console. The album contains musical tracks from the game, composed and produced by Hitoshi Sakimoto. The main themes and the theme song for the game are composed by Nobuo Uematsu. Vocals were performed by Angela Aki for the theme song, "Kiss Me Good-Bye". Also included in the soundtrack is Taro Hakase's "Symphonic Poem: Hope", arranged by Yuji Toriyama. The soundtrack was released on the May 31, 2006 in Japan.

The soundtrack is made out of four discs with a hundred tracks in total.

Avenged Sevenfold, sometimes abbreviated to A7X or Avenged, is a band from Huntington Beach, CA, consisting of members M. Shadows, Zacky Vengeance, Synyster Gates, Johnny Christ, and The Rev. Their first album was titled Sounding the Seventh Trumpet, and was recorded when the band members were 18 years old. Their follow-up album was entitled Waking the Fallen, which received a positive rating in Rolling Stone magazine.

City of Evil, released on June 7, 2005, strays from metalcore, going back to more hard rock with obvious influences ranging from Iron Maiden, Pantera and Metallica to Misfits and Guns N' Roses. Although the band has been labeled metal, metalcore and hard rock in many publications, the band themselves claim that they are a metal/hard rock band and have no musical similarities to metalcore in any way. Recently M. Shadows' vocal stylings have changed more to focus on melodic singing than on hardcore screaming, due to the band's desire to change the direction of their music. Shadows had major throat surgery in 2004, but this did not affect their decision to change musical styles.

The band's name is an alleged reference to the book of Genesis in the Bible and the story of Cain and Abel, where Cain is punished to live forever in exile, alone and miserable. Anyone who relieved Cain of his misery by killing him would be "avenged sevenfold," or punished in a way that is seven times worse than Cain's punishment. The title of Avenged Sevenfold's song "Chapter Four" references Genesis IV, the chapter of the Bible in which the story of Cain and Abel takes place. The song's subject also appears to be this story. Although the band's title and members' stage names make obvious reference to religion, Shadows stated in a recent interview that they are "not really religious at all."

CDC has three productions on their credit. They have a tape with a bit different alignment (without winds). The CEBEZAS DE CERA debut album, which is a real progressive gem is highly innovative, unique and at the same time distinctly Mexican. Formidable second work, in "Un Segundo", is an interesting group of themes in a remarkable combination of traditional and contemporary music. But it's not RIO or Zeuhl; it's just ... unique & different! Can definitely be recommended to progressive fans of the Mexican sound who aren't afraid of something a little different.

Goblin are an Italian progressive rock band who are known for theirsoundtracks on Dario Argento films (e.g. Deep Red of 1975 and Suspiriaof 1977).

They were initially named Cherry Five and were influenced by Genesisand King Crimson. Their early work spawned one progressive rock recordnamed after the band, until they were called in as replacements forcomposer Giorgio Gaslini, who had left the film Profondo Rosso after aconflict with director Dario Argento. They changed their name to Goblinand rewrote most of the score, including the famous main theme. Thefilm, and the soundtrack album, were huge hits.

A reshuffle in their line-up followed, and then an instrumentalprogressive rock album Roller, before they got the chance to work withArgento again for Suspiria. The score's nerve-jangling experimentalsounds and bizarre vocals have since become legendary. Despite their success, more members of the band left. The line-up wasaltered again, but this time they struggled to maintain theircredibility. Summary
A band that may seem typical of the (prog)metal scene, but might have to offer a bit more than that. Why otherwise would it be reviewed here.

The music
The album opens safely enough, but soon the rhythm guitars are hammering away. The music can be likened to Threshold, but a bit heavier maybe. The vocals are fortunately melodious, but get rougher and more swollen along the way. On It Remains A Mystery, the Threshold link (to my ears at least) stays. The vocals are a bit more typical for a metal band, though.

Take Me Down is more catchy, but with sinister verses. This track has a likeness to old school Gothic, the catchiness turns into atmospheric along the way. I Am Hate however, is more rocky, more hard-edged and tends to industrial oriented rock.

Lots of atmosphere, a folky one at that, we find on Death. The song starts of rather calmly, but later the rhythm guitar gives the song a bit more drive. Plodding metal we find on Burned, but do not ignore this song lightly, because it is a good one in which the metal parts are alternated with calm melodious vocals. The vocals are a bit in the style of Chris Cornell (Soundgarden).

On Over And Over we hear more rock, but also playfulness with somewhat high vocals. Tears Of Blood (part II) continues the combination of metal and melody in a good way, with quietere passages in between the heavy ones.

Forgive Me opens with sitar and swollen vocals, the singing in the chorus is much rowdier. The vocals get to be even more rougher later on, the keyboards tend to be classically oriented. Left In Confusion is more speed and more metal.

Into The Dark and closer The Black Symphony (Part II) are more epic pieces. The former of these opens in sinister fashion with lots of keyboards. The vocals are varied and there is some choir vocal singing as well. The song has a bit of a Faith No More feel. The music is not that complex, but there is really a loy of variation both in vocals, tempo and melody. This is a song that ought to appeal strongly to proglovers.

The final track then opening with piano and guitar. A strong feel of menace pervades the music when the drums set in. It is one of the few tracks with a long guitar solo, which is striking (and admirable in) a metal oriented record.

Conclusion
A good and interesting record that lies somewhere between metal, prog and gothic balancing the fine line between power and melody. The vocals are varied (yippie), sometimes a bit high, but always expressive and potent. All in all the band offers something different from the run-of-the-mill and the hope is that they are rewarded for this. I for one, however, would not put my money on it.

Sopor Aeternus & The Ensemble of Shadows is a darkwave band consisting solely of Anna-Varney Cantodea. Not much is known about Anna-Varney, save for the tortured life she lived which led to the band's existence. She has said in several interviews that she spent nearly three decades in extreme states of depression, despair and loneliness, all of which resulted in his discovery of the "Ensemble Of Shadows", otherwordly presences and/or voices who stirred her musical senses and guided her to share the works in her head with the public. She does not speak much on the subject of the Ensemble, nor does she perform live "in front of humans." Anna-Varney does have a sense of humour however, such as admitting she loves Darth Vader and changing the Fruit of the Loom logo to "Fruit of the Tomb", which incorporates his/her face into the design.

The music itself is quite emotional and dreary, using a variety of brass, woodwinds (in particular, flutes), string quartets and various guitars. In some instances, synthesizers and drum machines or real percussion is used. Anna-Varney has clearly stated that she creates her music about herself, solely for herself. Various themes include death, suicide, karmatic pain, loneliness and sadness. A very important concept is the idea of becoming or being a woman, or at least removal of the male genitalia in favour of attaining the female variant (in later album artwork, Anna-Varney is usually shown nude with a vagina which has been edited in by computer rather than having his body surgically altered due to spiritual conflicts; in either case, Anna-Varney is now referred to by the pronoun "she" instead of "he".) There are also several musical themes that reappear in his works; the most notable example is the song "Birth - Fiendish Figuration" which has appeared in at least four forms on separate releases. Other songs contain similar melodic lines or lyrics from an earlier release.

After five studio albums, the American progressive metal band SYMPHONY X is releasing their first live album "Live On The Edge Of Forever". SYMPHONY X is one of the best Prog Metal bands from America and a very good band in the studio, and this double-CD proofs that they're managing to play their songs live too. The album was recorded live in France and Germany in October 2000 and June 2001. The songs are powerful performed and as skillful as on the studio albums. Russell Allen's vocals are impressively strong onstage too. The last song is also the highlight of this live album. It's their 20-minutes epic masterpiece "The Divine Wings Of Tragedy", what a perfect way to end the album. SYMPHONY X has come a long way and developed a lot since their self-titled debut album in 1994. This live album is a very good summary of their career so far.

Satyricon is a Norwegian black metal band known mostly for their first album, Dark Medieval Times, which the band credit with starting a black metal sub-genre of medieval metal. The album showed off the fascination Satyricon had with the Middle Ages, along with the extreme metal mixed with acoustic guitar and flute. The album has been praised for both its beauty as well as its brutality.

The next album, The Shadowthrone was basically the same as the first, except for the absence of the flute. The next album, titled Nemesis Divina had a more extreme feel to it, as well as a Battle Metal overtone to it. The next full album was a huge departure from the last ones. Titled, Rebel Extravaganza, it had an urban feel to it, along with some examples from Industrial Music. This had many fans up in arms and angry: their beloved band turning into what they thought was just another Industrial Metal band, like Static-X or Fear Factory. Their next album was Volcano which was very different from their older albums. It had a Hard Rock song, named, "Fuel For Hatred", and other examples from Electronic, Hard Rock, and Industrial music.

While Volcano was depicted to be very different by a lot of fans/former fans, the frontman of the band, Satyr, states in a press release/biography, published on their homepage, that indeed "the music is rock based but more extreme; it is black metal pushing the boundaries that began with bands like Venom and Bathory, reinventing ourselves based on a foundation of rock oriented Black Metal is our philosophy. " By reinventing themselves they have gained the respect of many in the music world. This resulted in a total of 4 Awards for Volcano being, the Norwegian Grammy for "Best Metal Album", an Alarm award for "Fuel For Hatred" in the category for "Song of the Year", as well as The Alarm Award for "Metal Album of the Year" and not the least, The Oslo awards for "Best Overall Album".

Powerman 5000 is a Boston-based metal/Industrial Metal band formed in 1989. Frontman Spider One (Michael Cummings), is the younger brother of Rob Zombie (Robert Cummings).

In 1990, Spider dropped out of art school and bought a cheap 4-track home studio and drum machine. Working under the title "MC Spider", he recorded "Much Evil" with producer Lamar Lowder. Building on local success, he built a band under the name Powerman 5000. Their style was in the nature of rap/metal that had yet to gain popularity. In 1991, longtime guitarist Adam 12 (Adam Williams) joined the band. In 1994 and 1995, Powerman released two independant records, True Force and The Blood Splat Rating System. Both albums were local successes.

In 1997, the band signed to Dreamworks Entertainment and released a re-recording of The Blood Splat Rating System (with two new tracks) titled Mega!! Kung Fu Radio. The band toured and released singles such as "Organizized" and "Tokyo Vigilante #1". In 1999, Guitarist M.33 (Mike Tempesta) joined the band as they got their biggest break. Creating a strange fusion of science fiction (which had always interested Spider) and "action rock" (the term for their own high-energy powerful rock), they released Tonight the Stars Revolt!, which contained the hit singles "When Worlds Collide", "Nobody's Real", and "Supernova Goes Pop". The album sold over a million copies and assured the band's success.

A follow-up album titled Anyone For Doomsday? was recorded and a single ("Bombshell") had been released to radio stations, but the album was cancelled just before its scheduled release. Due to being heavily downloaded illegally, Anyone For Doomsday? was later released under Spider's own new label, Megatronic Records, but has since gone out of print due to legal issues. Arguments exist as to whether the record was cancelled due to the events of the September 11th terrorist attacks and the negative title, but the album was finished and scheduled to be released in August of 2001, a full month before the attacks. Spider has said in interviews that the album was dropped because it sounded too much like the previous album and that he wanted to release something fresh and different instead of repeating himself. Conflicts thereafter caused longtime members Dorian 27 (Dorian Heartsong) and Al3 (Allen Pahanish) to leave the band. Ad7 (Adrian Ost) and Siggy Siursen were brought in to replace them.

In 2003, the band released Transform, a more punk-fuelled album, completely dropping the costumes that had been featured throughout the band's Tonight The Stars Revolt! era. Containing the hit singles "Free" and "Action", the album sounded much more live and less filled with industrial metal electronics. After the release of Transform, Dreamworks Records was bought out by Interscope Records, and Powerman 5000 decided not to make the move. Undeterred, Spider continued with his own offshoot label Megatronic Records. In 2005, new music was released, both in the form of a rarities album titled The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly, Vol. 1 and in new music from an upcoming album. Powerman 5000 was credited for playing the song Almost Dead in the game Shadow the Hedgehog. A new tour was also started, but M.33 had left the band and Adam 12, while present on the upcoming album, was not touring. Former Alien Ant Farm guitarist Terry Corso and former Half-Cocked (the first band on Spider's label) guitarist Johnny Rock were brought in to round out the live show. The band is currently working on a new album, currently untitled and due out in Spring of 2006.

Vintersorg is a Swedish progressive, folk/viking, black metal-influenced band formed in 1994 under the name Vargatron (Wolfthrone in English). Lyrically, the band deals with topics on fantasy, mythology, and astrology. Vintersorg means roughly "Winter Sorrow," but the name was taken from the Isfolket series by Margit Sandemo where the character Vintersorg is the son of a great pagan leader.

The sound of Vintersorg has vastly changed over the years, as his earlier sound had more of a Viking feel, and his later more of an experimental post-black sound. This transformation was most notably marked with the release of Cosmic Genesis.

Vintersorg (aka Andreas Hedlund) is constantly creating music. He is the front-man of several bands including Vintersorg, Otyg, Borknagar, Havayoth, Fission, Cronian and Waterclime.

David Bowie is commonly known as the chameleon of pop, predicting trends and adjusting his style and persona, while holding on to his own ideas and creativity. Iced Earth is an American heavy metal band that combines influences from thrash metal, power metal, NWOBHM with gothic touches, and is one of the few modern bands still producing 'true heavy metal' and refusing to follow trends.

The central figure of Iced Earth is rhythm guitarist and songwriter Jon Schaffer, who formed Purgatory in Indiana in 1984. After moving to Florida and changing their name to Iced Earth, the group's Enter the Realm demo was popular enough that they released an eponymous debut LP with Century Media Records. Since then the band has gone through numerous lineup changes, thanks in part to the authoritarian rule of Schaffer. Vocalist Matt Barlow joined the band (after a three-year band hiatus following Night of the Stormrider) for Burnt Offerings, largely based on Dante's Inferno. Barlow's vocals proved extremely popular and he remained with the band for many years, eventually parting amicably with the band in June 2003 to pursue a career with the United States Department of Homeland Security. Conveniently, singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens soon left Judas Priest (to make room for returning original vocalist Rob Halford) and became Iced Earth's new vocalist. His first album with the band, The Glorious Burden, is an examination of many aspects of warfare and military figures who have shaped the modern world. Its topics range from the Declaration of Independence to 9/11 to Napoleon Bonaparte, and there are three songs dealing with the Battle of Gettysburg. There is a limited edition where the Gettysburg Trilogy is moved to a second disc and the songs Waterloo and the unplugged version of When the Eagle Cries are added to the first disc. The album's theme became the centre of a recent controversy after Schaffer gave an interview to Canadian heavy metal magazine Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles. After the interview was published, Schaffer accused the magazine of having taking him out of context and of pushing an anti-American bias, and subsequently announced that the band would boycott the magazine in the future.

Together with Hansi Kürsch - lead singer and former bass player of Blind Guardian - Schaffer is also part of a side project called Demons & Wizards.

Lana Lane - Lady Macbeth

The style of Lana Lane has always floated between melodic hard rock and symphonic prog, with one album standing out: Secrets Of Astrology, which could almost be called prog metal. This makes the expectations for Lady MacBeth high ? what direction would she go this time? Well, it is a little heavier than Project Shangri La, but not as loud as Secrets Of Astrology. There are some really nice, crunchy songs on the album, but alternated with more mellow songs and of course a few excellent ballads.

Besides Erik Norlander, who is present on every one of her albums, there is a very prominent role for guitar player Peer Verschuren, who already supported her on her European Tours since 2001. Also drummer Ernst van Ee is present on the album, providing a steady backbone to the songs. New is bass player Kristoffer Gildenlöw (Pain of Salvation), playing fretted and fretless bass on the album. The overall sound is fantastic, lush and warm. The musicians match perfectly with each other, so it is a great album to listen to.

As soon as you hear the opening song, "Lady MacBeth," you already feel the energy: first the piano intro, then the heavy, plucking bass by Gildenlöw and the rolling drums by van Ee, and the serene vocals by Lana Lane, then you know it ? this is an amazing, invigorating album. I particularly love the drums here! It is an up-tempo song, with great riffs by Verschuren, who keeps tread with the drums. Lana's vocals are fabulous, throughout the album and never over the top, but always in control.

Malice Mizer was a Japanese band in the visual kei music scene, active from August 1992 to December 2001. Formed by Mana and Közi, the band's name stands for malice and misery ? their answer to the question "what is human?". Malice Mizer were as famous for their one-of-a-kind music as for their spectacular live shows, featuring lavish historical costumes and stage sets, whimsical dance routines and band members flying in suspended from wires. During their rocky history, the band went through several different lineups and three drastic image changes but their work always maintained the highest professional standards. On December 11, 2001, it was announced that Malice Mizer would begin an indefinite hiatus, and the members went their separate ways - effectively disbanding the group.

Mr. Bungle was an avant-garde, experimental musical group that cycled through several musical genres oftentimes within the course of a single song, oftentimes fusing radically different styles together seamlessly. While their work is inspired by such a myriad of sources, it would be impossible to list them all, some notable influences include heavy metal, rock music, ska, free jazz, pop, contemporary art music, rockabilly, bossa nova, and even video game and cartoon music. Mr. Bungle released three full-length albums between 1991 and 1999 and has not been active since then.

Their self-titled debut Mr. Bungle, recorded a year after Mike Patton was recruited into Faith No More, was produced by jazz experimentalist John Zorn. The content is very hard to pin down using specific genres, and the structure and musical style of any single track can dramatically alter anywhere in a song. One track on the album, "Quote Unquote" caused a minor controversy; it was originally titled "Travolta", presumably refering to actor John Travolta, but was renamed after the actor reportedly threatened legal action.

Disco Volante, their second major release, has a completely different tone. It is the most experimental of Mr. Bungle's albums as the music ventures into more complex and formal sonic territory. The extreme shifts of musical style are consistent throughout the album, arguably making it Mr. Bungle's most difficult and inaccessible album.

The band's third album, California, is their most accessible album. While the genre shifts are still present on the album, they are less frequent, giving the album a less chaotic and more stable feel.

Mr. Bungle is currently disbanded. When asked on a possible reunion, Mike Patton stated, "It could happen, but I won?t be singing. Some bridges have definitely been burned. It was a fun time and sometimes you just have to move on. I?ve got a lot on my plate now."

Testament was formed in the San Francisco area in 1983 by guitarist Eric Peterson and his friend, Derrick Ramirez, also a guitarist, originally using the name Legacy. The band soon recruited bassist Greg Christian, drummer Louie Clemente, and vocalist Steve Souza. Ramirez was subsequently replaced by young guitar prodigy Alex Skolnick, who had studied under the legendary bay-area guitarist Joe Satriani. Steve Souza subsequently left the band, and suggested that Chuck Billy should replace him on lead vocals. While recording their first album, the band was forced to change their name to Testament because another band held a copyright to the name "The Legacy".

Testament's first album, The Legacy, was released in 1987 on Megaforce Records. It is a concise and technical album of vintage thrash metal, still refered to as a classic by many fans of the genre. Testament received instant fame within thrash circles and were often compared with fellow bay-area thrash pioneers Metallica. The band quickly managed to increase their exposure by heading out on a successful tour of America and Europe with Anthrax, who were then touring in support of their Among The Living album. On this tour the Live at Eindhoven EP was recorded.

However, Testament would never be able to equal the success they found with Practice. In 1990, Souls of Black was released to mixed reviews and slow album sales. Attempting to reconnect with an audience distracted by the growing grunge movement, Testament released The Ritual in 1992. The Ritual saw a stylistic move away from thrash to a slightly more traditional heavy metal sound. Sales were poor and the band began to implode.

Lead guitarist Alex Skolnick had long been frustrated by the stylistic limitations of the band and left soon after The Ritual's release to temporarily join Savatage. Drummer Louie Clemente soon split with the band as well, moving towards a more stable non-musical career, whereas Peterson and Billy wanted Testament to become more metal, not less.

Soon after the release of The Gathering, lead guitarist James Murphy was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Through various fundraisers, Murphy was able to afford surgery and eventually made a full recovery. Nevertheless, he now cannot recall anything from the recording of The Gathering. In 2001, Chuck Billy was also diagnosed with cancer and began treatment. In spite of these difficulties, Testament managed to release First Strike Still Deadly, a compilation of their best songs from the first two albums. The album featured the lineup of Billy, Peterson, DiGiorgio, and the return of Alex Skolnick on guitar and John Tempesta on drums, although neither on a permanent basis.

Fantômas is an alternative metal band formed in the late 1998. Personnel are singer Mike Patton (who formed the group shortly after the breakup of Faith No More), guitarist King Buzzo, bass guitarist Trevor Dunn, and drummer Dave Lombardo. Patton named the group after Fantômas, a villain featured in a series of crime novels popular in France before World War I.

Though rooted in heavy metal, their music actually touches on a lot of different genres, and is noted for its offbeat sense of humor; one critic has dubbed their style "dada-metal" [1] Critic Greg Prato describes their music as "completely original ... especially when compared to the blah and predictable alt-rock of the late '90s."[2] Patton rarely sings conventional lyrics with the group, preferring his own bizarre style of voice music or scat singing. They also arrange albums around strange concepts or themes:

* Fantômas ('Amenaza Al Mundo') was based on Science-Fiction comic books, with every song simply given a page number (Page 1, Page 2 etc.).
* 'The Director's Cut' was a series of reinterpretations of motion picture theme songs. Some versions are rather loyal to the sources (such as the eerie lullabye from Night of the Hunter), while others offer radical takes on the music (such the theme from The Godfather tackled as a thrash metal song).
* 'Delìrium Cordìa' was one extended song, the concept being about having surgery without Anaesthetic.
* 'Suspended Animation' (Recorded in the same sessions as Delirium Cordia') is an album of twisted cartoon music, each track named after a day in the month of April 2005. (Friday The 8th, etc.).

In summer of 2005 the band toured Europe with Terry Bozzio on drums, because Lombardo was on tour with Slayer. Lombardo returned to the band for the final dates of the tour, which concluded on September 15, 2005.

Diorama is a darkwave gothic band in Germany under Accession Records. The group formed in the mid 1990s and released their debut album, Pale in September of 1999. On April of 2001, Diorama released their follow up called, Her Liquid Arms. The leading track from this album, also named "Her Liquid Arms", contains portions of Edgar Allen Poe's poem, The Telltale Heart. This release was produced by Diary of Dreams lead singer, Adrian Hates. On October 2002, Diorama released their third album titled, The Art of Creating Confusing Spirits. For about two years, Diorama toured, played at festivals and worked on their next album. On April 4, 2005 Diorama released Amaroid. Pale was re-released on October 21, 2005.

Van Halen is an American rock band formed in the early-1970s and discovered by KISS bassist and co-founder Gene Simmons. The band's first studio album, Van Halen, released in 1978 is widely regarded as a milestone in rock music. Haggard is a German symphonic metal band founded in 1991. Haggard combines folk, classical, renaissance and medieval music with modern doom metal.

The band started playing death metal in 1991. They then changed their style after their first demo tape Introduction in 1992, becoming a symphonic metal band and producing two albums dealing with the seer Michel de Notredame in the dark days of The Black Plague in Europe. The album And Thou Shalt Trust... The Seer marked their breakthrough in 1997. After their second album Awaking The Centuries, they toured through Mexico twice. They are quite famous and well known in South America, almost more so than in Germany. In 2004 they released their third album Eppur Si Muove which is about the life of Italian scholar Galileo Galilei.

Just before their album Awaking The Centuries the band had it's highest number of musicians at 21. Currently the band consists of 16 musicians. All their songs are written by vocalist and guitarist Asis Nasseri.
